Full Stack Developer

Full-time · Remote (Canada) or hybrid in Calgary

Own AroIQ features end to end — the views, APIs, and pipelines that turn high-volume SCADA data into events operators act on.

About Arolytics

Arolytics helps oil & gas operators cut methane through operational efficiency. Our platform, AroIQ, turns the SCADA data operators already collect into emission events — each with a measured volume and a likely cause, ranked by what they cost. Our engineering team is small and senior, and the software it ships has real environmental, operational, and regulatory impact for operators across North America.

The role

We're scaling AroIQ to hundreds of sites, and we're growing the engineering team to match. We're looking for a Full Stack Developer who can work across the whole stack, think critically about what they're building, and grow quickly into bigger system-level ownership.

You won't be siloed into tickets. You'll understand the product, talk to the people who use it, ask the hard questions, and help decide what gets built.

What you'll do

  • Own features end to end — build and ship across the frontend, backend, APIs, and data layer, and stay accountable for how your work behaves in production.
  • Write strong, performant frontend code, including handling live data in the UI (streaming updates, large datasets, responsive rendering).
  • Process time-series and telemetry data — transform and surface high-volume SCADA data streams efficiently, in both the backend and the UI.
  • Build and reason about long-running and asynchronous processes — data pipelines, background jobs, and model-output ingestion — that stay reliable as volume grows.
  • Apply critical thinking to every task: understand the why behind the work, challenge assumptions, and ask clarifying questions before you build the wrong thing.
  • Contribute to — and increasingly help drive — technical discussions: bring options to the table, reason through trade-offs out loud, and help the team reach a decision.
  • Develop sharp system design instincts: think about data models, edge cases, failsafes, and guardrails so what you build degrades gracefully instead of breaking silently.
  • Use AI-assisted coding to move fast — while building real understanding of the fundamentals underneath, not just accepting whatever the tools suggest.
  • Wear the product hat: work with product, data science, and our emissions analysts, optimize for the customer outcome, and speak up when something doesn't make sense.
  • Help keep the codebase healthy — write tested, maintainable code and care about the technical debt you create.

What we're looking for

  • Solid experience (typically 3–4 years) building and shipping full-stack production software.
  • A strong sense of ownership and critical thinking — you treat a problem as yours to solve and dig into the why before you write code.
  • Strong JavaScript/TypeScript with working knowledge of React — hands-on experience building data-rich frontends (we build AroIQ with React + TypeScript on a Supabase backend). We value fundamentals over any single framework, plus the curiosity to switch tools when a problem calls for it.
  • Working full-stack skills — comfortable across APIs, relational databases, and the data layer, not just the UI.
  • Growing system design skills — you think about how things scale, where they can fail, and what guardrails belong in place.
  • Comfortable and effective with AI-assisted coding, but able to reason about the code yourself, debug it, and build things end to end without leaning entirely on the tools.
  • Awareness of how modern AI features are built — RAG, embeddings, and vector databases (e.g., pgvector) — and how LLMs are wired into a frontend at scale, with an eye on latency and cost.
  • Understanding of CI/CD and deploying at scale, including how to catch security issues and vulnerabilities before they reach production — automated scanning, code review, and preview environments.
  • A real product mindset in the making — you care about outcomes for the user, can hold your own in a technical discussion, and aren't afraid to push back.
  • Appetite to take on more as the team grows.

Nice to have

  • Hands-on Supabase or deep PostgreSQL experience — Row Level Security, Edge Functions, query tuning on large tables.
  • Hands-on AWS experience — S3 for data processing, serverless functions (e.g., Lambda), and how services are deployed and run on AWS — plus familiarity with Vercel.
  • Experience deploying software (or ML models) to production.
  • Background in data-heavy or analytics products, or time-series/telemetry data.
  • Interest in climate, energy, or emissions reduction.

Our stack

React/TypeScript on the frontend (Vite, React Router, TanStack Query, Zustand, Tailwind + shadcn/ui); Supabase (PostgreSQL, Row Level Security, Edge Functions, pgvector, Storage) on the backend; Vercel for hosting and preview deploys; AWS for AI/ML infrastructure; GitHub + GitHub Actions for source control and CI/CD. We lean heavily on AI-assisted development across the entire workflow.

How we work

No layers, high ownership. AI-native development is the norm, not the exception. We ship to preview environments before production, review every change, build guardrails in by default, and hold ourselves to enterprise security standards (SOC 2 Type II). Outcomes over output, always.

What we offer

Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits. Work that ships to production and reaches operators directly. Remote within Canada, or hybrid from our downtown Calgary office.
